It's a sad story. A pair of little Olive-backed Sunbirds tried to make a nest on the other side of my patio wall, overhanging the downstairs neighbour's patio. I was delighted. My neighbours weren't so pleased. This was why this pair of lovebirds (above) came home one day to find that 'home' had mysteriously vanished, leaving behind but a few strands of nesting material.

I remember for many hours the couple fluttered around the site, seemingly confused at the abduction of their unfinished home. Fortunately the nest was partially constructed at the time of its destruction and no eggs were laid. I hope a new nest was constructed somewhere safer in time for the eggs.

Although I couldn't do anything to save their former home, I'm glad I still get visits from the birds daily. No, they haven't built a nest over my patio even if they are more than welcome to. The couple (and I'm assuming we're talking about the same couple) has made my patio a feeding station and stop by for a sugary snack routinely.

A few days ago, I just managed to capture a rather poor shot of the Sunbird as it came by. Here, the male perches on an Alocasia leaf stalk to take a sip of nectar from the neighbouring Pentas which has bountiful blooms. Red flowers are Sunbird magnets and those clusters of brilliant Pentas are just too much to resist!

I'm thinking of getting a Tecomaria to diversify my menu as I heard that the Sunbirds like those too. I'd hate to lose my customers when and if the Pentas goes out of flower! :D
